Sarbananda Sonowal has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Assam, making him the first BJP leader to hold the post. Sarbananda Sonowal resigned as Union Minister of State for Sports after his party's win in the recent Assembly elections in Assam. BJP has won 60 of the 126 seats in the Assam assembly elections.
