​$88 million is the amount of loan pact signed between the World Bank and India for Assam Inland Water Transport Project. The loan agreement is to modernize passenger ferry sector of Assam that runs primarily on the Brahmaputra and other rivers. Sameer Kumar Khare, Additional Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs and Junaid Kamal Ahmad, Country Director (India), World Bank signed the loan agreement. The loan has a final maturity of 14.5 years and a grace period of 5 years. Please note that the government ferries will be operated by Assam Shipping Company and the terminal services will be provided by Assam Ports Company.
