Explanation: Deepor Beel is a perennial freshwater lake located southwest of Guwahati, in the lower Brahmaputra Valley . It is the only wetland in Assam which is designated as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, 1972. It was declared as a Bird Sanctuary in 1989 and in 2004, Birdlife International declared the wetland as an Important Bird Area covering an area of 414 hectares. Flora: The Giant Water Lily- Euryale Ferox is of considerable botanical and economic importance. Dominant aquatic plants include Eichhornia crassipes, Pistia stratiotes, Ottelia alismoides, and Lemna minor. Fauna: Some globally threatened birds are supported, including Spot-billed Pelican (Pelicanus philippensis), Lesser and Greater Adjutant Stork (Leptoptilos javanicus and dubius), and Baer's Pochard (Aythya baeri). The animals include Asiatic Elephants, Hoolock Gibbon, Assamese Macaque, Rhesus Macaque, etc.
