While the country is battling with COVID-19, deadly African Swine Fever (ASF) has killed around 13,000 pigs in Assam . The infection has spread from six districts to three more, namely Majuli, Golaghat and Kamrup Metropolitan. The outbreak of the disease was initially detected in Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Biswanath districts. Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had directed officials of the veterinary and forest departments to work in coordination with the National Pig Research Centre (NPRC) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to save the animal from the disease. ASF was last reported in China in 2019 and in 2020, "It started in Arunachal in January, and in Assam in February.
