Question 1719
Directions : Five units Anandam, Baagh bagicha, Chai bagicha, Dictator bagicha and Elephanta bagicha of a tea producer company produced different amounts of tea (in tons) last year. Each unit exported some amount of the tea produced and the rest was for sale locally. The following pie chart shows the distribution of the amount that was for local sale by each unit. The difference between the degrees of Anandam and Chai bagicha is 18° (Anandam (i) One - fourth of the total tea yield from all units combined was geared towards international markets. (ii) The quantity of tea Baagh Bagicha manufactured for local distribution overshot the combined produce of Anandam and Dictator Bagicha by 20%. (iii) Chai Bagicha surpassed Dictator Bagicha by generating an impressive 135 more tons of tea for the domestic market. (iv) Comparing the tea produced for local commerce, Baagh Bagicha's output to that of Dictator Bagicha and Elephanta Bagicha, combined, represented a 6:7 ratio respectively. If 40% of unit Baagh bagicha local yield and 30% of unit Chaai bagicha local yield were purchased within Assam, what's the difference in the quantity of tea produced for local markets by units Baagh bagicha and Chaai bagicha that was not sold within the state?
Answer
54 tons
Why?
Let the degrees (in the pie chart) of Anandam, Baagh bagicha, Chai bagicha, Dictactor bagicha and Elephanta be a, b, c, d and e respectively. From the given data, we have: c - a = 18 .. (i) b = 120% of (a + d) = 1.2a + 1.2d .. (ii) b:(d + e) = 6:7 7b = 6d + 6e 7b = 6d + 540 .. (iii) Also, a + b + c + d = 360 - 90 = 270 .. (iv) From (i) and (iv), we get a + b + a + 18 + d = 270 2a + b + d = 252 2(b - 1.2d)/1.2 + b + d = 252 (from (ii)) 2b - 2.4d + 1.2b + 1.2d = 302.4 1.6b - 0.6d = 151.2 16b - 6d = 1512 16b - 7b + 540 = 1512 (from (iii)) b = 108 So, d = 36, a = 54, c = 72 For domestic market, c produced 135 tons more than that by d. (c - d)/360 of Total amount for local sale = 135 36/360 of Total amount for local sale = 135 Total amount for local sale = 135/0.1 = 1350 tons 25% of the total amount produced by all the units together was exported, so 75% was for local sale. So, total amount produced (export + local sale) = 1350/0.75 = 1800 tons Amount exported = 1800 - 1350 = 450 tons Unit Domestic sale Anandam 54 ° = 202.5 tons Baagh bagicha 108 ° = 405 tons Chai bagicha 72 ° = 270 tons Dictactor bagicha 36 ° = 135 tons Elephanta 90 ° = 337.5 tons Total domestic sale = 1350 tons Total exported = 450 tons(25% of 1800) Degrees(d + e) = 90° + 36° = 126° Sale outside Assam = 60% of B and 70% of C So, difference = 0.6B - 0.7C = ((0.6 * 108° - 0.7 * 72°)/360°) * 1350 = 54 tons
