Key Points NFHS-5: Data from NFHS-5 show that the more educated a woman, the higher her negotiating power about when she wants to get married . Interestingly, this is not a recent phenomenon. Data suggest that for decades now, better-educated women have had more of a say on when they should get married . Hence statement 1 is Incorrect . With the vast diversity within India, it is imperative to analyse variations by the state to understand and address why these differentials exist. Eight states have a higher prevalence of child marriage than the national average. Among them, West Bengal, Bihar and Tripura top the list with more than 40% of women aged 20-24 years married below 18.
